The Smithsonian Super Dig kit includes 2 sand blocks for digging.  Conduct your own archeological dig to discover dinosaur bones in a sand block.  Unearth the bones and assemble them into a replica T-Rex dinosaur skeleton.  
Use the excavation tools to find "Mars" rock buried in a sand block.  Assemble a scale model of the Mars Rover, "Curiosity".
