    John F. Coverdale was born in Chicago in 1940 and received his PhD in history from the University of Wisconsin in 1971 after working with the founder of Opus Dei in Rome from 1961 to 1968. He taught at Princeton and Northwestern Universities, and has written several books including  Uncommon Faith: The Early Years of Opus Dei  (2002). He graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1984 and clerked for Hon. Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit before practicing law and later teaching at the Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, NJ.
