With a long history of being involved in supporting other non-profit initiatives, Alessi is proud to be associated with (RED) and has a heightened awareness of the impact every contribution makes. Alessi contributes a portion of the purchase price from the (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition "Alessandro M." corkscrew to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, which can provide 6 days of life-saving HIV medication. The Alessandro M. corkscrew is a self-portrait of its designer, Alessandro Mendini. Developing a character that could take its place with grace and quality in the design pantheon in a series of different guises was no easy task. Alongside the two basic versions - white and red, yellow and blue - Mendini envisaged an amazing collection of characters, including Father Christmas, a ghost, a chef, and a rock star.
