Buckwheat hulls, while more expensive, are clearly the better choice for a material to use as a filling. By contrast, the material that most manufacturers use is polystyrene. Polystyrene allows heat to build up, breaks down quickly, is too light to create a stable support, and is the opposite of an environmentally friendly product. If buying a beanbag type stand, please try to find one that is not polystyrene, even if it is not a Lap Log. 

 The standard insert that ships with the Lap Log will accommodate a device + case up to ½" in thickness. If you have a heavier case on your device, you may need the wider insert that will work up to 1". If you need the wider insert, we can provide you with one at no additional charge. Just send us a message through the 'Contact Seller' link on the Lap Log page and let us know that you need the wide insert. Please be sure that your case is over 1/2" thick before ordering the wide insert as the wide insert will not work as well for a thin case such as the Apple Smartcase or Apple Smartcover.
