Meerkats are found in Southern Africa and are known for their upright posture and highly sociable behavior. They live in dry open areas and savannas and forage for food only during the daytime. They feed on insects such as beetles, spiders and millipedes. Typically they have 2-4 young, which are often born in the fall or early winter.
